Participation is at the heart of Shabnam’s practice and questions around what it means to take part?
Participation, at its heart, has a mission to encourage more people to take part in the arts.
Participation is about the integration of ‘community’ and artist, encouraging the notion of space to become more flexible as a new type of work emerges which wishes to place the spectator within in it, as an active participant.
Participation is about the blurring of spectator, community, performer/artist. Taking a non hierarchical, ‘without walls’ approach where there is no distinction between spectator, artist and participant. Giving people a voice and not placing a distinction between ‘specialists’ and ‘non specialists’. Participation is socially engaged and collaborative, socially cohesive and aiming to develop, enhance, extend social bonds.
Shabnam is experienced at developing tailor made projects and programmes of work that integrate art and social praxis in unique and creative ways. The emphasis being on collaboration, and the collective dimension of social experience, whilst ensuring high quality outcomes.
